The most common bathroom remodel failures we see come from shortcuts on the substrate and waterproofing. Tile installed over standard drywall in a wet area will eventually fail. Shower pans built without proper slope toward the drain will trap water and deteriorate. We use cement board on all shower walls, apply waterproofing membrane at all seams and corners, and slope every shower floor correctly — every single time. These are not premium upgrades. They are the correct way to build a shower.
